Matt,

I have 3 gadgets in the iGoogle directory that are busted due to recent changes in the iGoogle environment. The feeds are called with “_IG_FetchFeedAsJSON” BUT they never load. The user only sees “Loading…” under the 4 tabs.

I tried registering this in the iGoogle Developers Forum: http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Gadgets-API/browse_thread/thread/629be11a8ef39e8c/341f32f62afa569a#341f32f62afa569a
Have also emailed Daniel L., the original author of the code, describing the problem and asking for help. No answer yet, and I need a work-around fast!

So my question for you is this: is there some example iGoogle Gadget code of a feed reader that works in the new iGoogle environment? This needs to be a feed reader that I customize with my local news feeds for TodayinAustin. I can let go of the 4-Tabs version if I just had a simple .xml file for loading 1 feed.

I would then replace my 4-Tab .xml code with something simpler that works for 1 feed.

Hi Matt,

I’ve been a fan of your site for some time, even back with the old style site when you had 10 tips for being a better JS programmer. I’ve referred many people to your site over the years (the fact you no longer have the 10 tips up saddens me).

Anyways, you used to make a point of telling people to skip prototype, and I can’t agree more. I was there in the beginning when prototype tended to break “stuff”, and debugging a site with prototype in it was near impossible. I guess it has improved as I don’t see you trying to dissuade anyone from it anymore. If Dojo isn’t dead, it should be. I’ve pulled that thing out of two different websites and they ran so much better with out it.

But Matt, I’d like you to take a look at something I’ve been working on for the last year. I’ve rejected the bloated frameworks, and been working on something very very different. Take a minute please and tell me what you think… In this case, it combines social networking with some cloud-computing elements:

@gtg489: I considered that, but _ is actually meant to take up the amount of space as the character that follows it. Which is why you often see _) in formats that contain (0.0) for negatives. Making every _ a nbsp would make some too wide and kind of defeat the purpose, IMO. Anyway, suggestions are best made on the Google Group for the library, as there are other people working on improving it now also.

Matt, you can replace _ with which is interpreted by browsers as non breaking spaces

Line 864:

Hey man. You should check out Coral IE Tab.
The main benefit over IE Tab is that it remembers your cookie (so you don’t have to re-sign in) when switching rendering engines.

One of the other things I’ve down with YouTube is download the video and convert it to a different format for offline viewing using VDownloader (portable):
